  • For The Great Ones [video up!]

    For The Great Ones
    By Yours Truly

    I:
Why do all the great ones
    leave the world so early?
Why do some of them leave us
    here so abruptly?

    Chorus:
Memories will have to serve us
To remember how things used to be
The way he taught the way it was
Forever in our minds, we’ll see

    II:
The ones who made our earth spin,
    we’ll remember forever more
    Now where do we begin
    shaken from our core

    Chorus:
Memories will have to serve us
To remember how things used to be
The way he taught the way it was
Forever in our minds, we’ll see

    Bridge:
    Watching down from heaven,
    Watching us live our lives
    Silently watching,
    Until our time arrives

    Coda:
Why do all the great ones
    leave the world so early?

  • Warmup for this Xanga Idol shindig.

    Pause playlist and play this.

    Xanga video quality is terrible…

I’m going to try to whip this into shape for the Xanga Idol soon. Just for kicks.

  • Original Song: I’ll Stay

Original song I wrote. It’s about being clingy… kind of a pre-emptive measure. I suppose write songs to make sure I don’t go overboard in my own personal relationships or something.

Y’all know the drill. Pause the playlist on the side, press play on the song, and provide feedback! Thanks! :)

    I’ll Stay

    by Yours Truly

    Capo 4
    Lyrics:
    C E7 Am G
    V1:
The burning cold weather, dry as ever,
    follows me as I walk
The refreshing night air, sharp and cooling,
    accompanies my thoughts
Why are we like this, fighting for days,
    in our own different ways?
Maybe it’s just me, silly and foolish,
and this is the price I pay?

    V2:
In the evening, it gets colder,
    I’m even more discouraged.
The arctic conditions, the ice begins to glisten
I’m wondering if you’re calm yet.
Why are we like this, fighting for days,
    in our own different ways?
Maybe it’s just me, silly and foolish,
and this is the price I pay?
Maybe if it is, I’ll stay.

    F G Em Am
    Chorus:
I’ll stay here and weather it,
    your cold uncaring looks.
I’ll stay here and try to bear it,
To see if it’ll do some good.
You may leave if you want,
You may leave if you want,
You may leave if you want,
    I’ll stay.

    V3:
You write in your journal, things of late
How you’ve found, loved, and lost
The things you’ve wished for, maybe lived for,
    Things that can’t be bought
    How long has it been
    since you wrote about when
my words gave you those feelings
    within?

    Chorus

    F, G, C / F, G, Am
    Bridge
    Whatever you do,
    Whatever you say
    Just know, I’ll stay.
    Just know that I’ll stay.

    Chorus

  • What’s the worst advice you’ve ever taken?

That’s a toughie. I’ve taken lots of bad advice in the past.

“Let’s go in there. Nobody’s there!” – turns out, while nobody was there, there were 100 people right next door.
“Ask her out! What could it hurt, right?” – apparently, a lot that could have been averted had I spent more time thinking things out.
“Take all of the time you need. The teachers will be lenient.” – 32 classwork zeroes is not my idea of leniency.
“Don’t go out there! The cops are going to arrest you! Stay inside and wait!” – I would have saved a good 3 hours of time spent hiding from spotlights shining into a house if I walked out earlier. All they did was scan my ID to check for warrants and let me go home.
    “Turn left!” *pointing right* – unfortunately, this happens every time mom is in the passenger seat while I’m driving. No matter which way I turn, I get yelled at for being “an idiot” for “not knowing which way left/right is”… -_-;

There’s so much more that isn’t coming to mind right now.

I just answered this Featured Question; you can answer it too!

  • Oh, Valentine’s Day.

“I am too _______ for Valentine’s Day to participate this year.”

This is a recurring thought that keeps flitting through my mind. I’ve filled in the blank with words like lazy, tired, and poor, but they don’t fit well enough. What DOES belong in the blank is a conglomerate of lazy, tired, poor, and shy. I admit it, but this year, I don’t have the guts to participate.

There are many girls that I would love to make my “Valentine” for this year, but I don’t want them to get the wrong idea and think I’m going for any more than just the position of “wonderful friend of the opposite sex.” It’s a fine line between “wonderful friend” and “oh no, he might want more” and I have decided not to put any effort into walking on it this year.

I’d sure like a hug, though. Hugs are great.

PS: I’m going to start doing live broadcasts on ustream, similar to XTV… only if people actually want to stop by. I can do Q&A’s and play music. Anyone in? (:

  • A Streetcar Named Screw-Up

For my English class, I had the luxury of taking my pick of book/play for a project off of a list of books and plays that the College Board defines as important for my education… or something.

As the title of this post gives away, I decided on Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire for my project. I have heard many things about it, and I thought that it would be a good addition to the other clutter in my brain. 15 pages in, I think I am right.

Aside from the fact that every time I mention that I am reading Streetcar, someone has to scream “STELLA! HEY STELLA! STELLLAAAAAA!”, I am finding it very intriguing. Since I’m doing a project on the book and have to take weekly notes on it (because I’m stuck in Senior English), I read the plot summary and checked out the symbols that I am to watch out for to save myself some time. After reading the summaries and analysis and the beginning of the play, I must say that this play is great. Incredibly fucked up, but great.

Speaking to one of my friends (an English and Psychology guy), I hear that Williams’ characters in his plays were almost always all flawed in some way, and this far into the play, I agree. While not all in the same way, all of these characters have fucked up personalities.

It’s kind of fun to read a play in which there is no “good guy” to save the day.

  • My Word of the Day for Everyone!

    Word of the Day:
    Slactivism/Slacktivism
    portmanteau of slacker + activism

This is when you “support” a cause to make yourself feel like you’re doing something without actually putting in significant (personal) effort.

Ex: “I texted the Red Cross, so I did my part to support Haiti and don’t need to do anything else….”
    or
“I joined a Facebook group that is supposedly donating to Haiti, so I feel good about having done all that I possibly can!”

Yes, you’ve made an “effort”, but to consider it “doing your part” is downright moronic.

  • For Haiti! Your text(s) will help the relief effort!

    SPREAD

    THE

    WORD!

I know lots of people are already informed of the Red Cross text, but for the other ones are also just as helpful!

    Standard texting charges apply.

Text “HAITI” to “90999” to donate $10 on behalf of the American Red Cross.

Text “YELE” to “501501” to donate $5 on behalf of The Yéle Haiti Foundation.

Text “HAITI” to “20222” to donate $10 on behalf of The William J. Clinton Foundation.

Text “HAITI” to “85944” to donate $10 on behalf of the Rescue Union Mission and MedCorp International.

Text “HAITI” to “25383” to donate $5 on behalf of the Internal Rescue Committee.

    Original link: here.

Thanks for helping. I spent five hours standing out in the cold collecting donations for the Tzu Chi Foundation today and intend on doing it again tomorrow and next weekend.
